Racecourse Estate
Racecourse Estate is a large social housing estate in Northolt, and was the location for a pilot multi-year estate greening project between 2019-2023.
The pilot aimed to deliver a set of complementary year-round greening activities on one site over multiple years and to create and improve high quality green spaces across an area in an integrated way with the local community. We collaborated with stakeholders and community groups focusing on tree planting, co-design, play and sustainable, active community involvement beyond the programme timeframe through establishing a community greening group ‘Green Shoots’ with the Freshwater Foundation.
Over the four years, Trees for Cities transformed the estate by planting 914 trees and 17,200 bulbs. We added 15 benches, 15 oak raised beds for growing flowers and food, and five oak picnic benches with adjoining raised beds - plus a trim trail! We also installed three sculptures and two oak archways.
